{"id":321,"date":"2018-05-10T13:46:11","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T13:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lytle.org.uk\/wp\/?page_id=321"},"modified":"2018-05-29T14:58:08","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T14:58:08","slug":"sambrooke-family","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lytle.org.uk\/wp\/?page_id=321","title":{"rendered":"Sambrooke Family"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Emma<\/strong> <strong>Sambrooke\u00a0 (1848<\/strong> <strong>&#8211;<\/strong> <strong>1921)<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Emma<\/em> <em>became<\/em> <em>my<\/em> <em>grandmother.<\/em> <em>She<\/em> <em>was<\/em> <em>trained<\/em> <em>as<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>nurse\/governess<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>held<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>post<\/em> <em>as<\/em> <em>governess<\/em> <em>to<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>Borthwick<\/em> <em>family,<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>subsequently<\/em> <em>married<\/em> <em>one<\/em> <em>of<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>children,<\/em> <em>called<\/em> <em>Benjamin,<\/em> <em>of<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>blanket<\/em> <em>factory<\/em> <em>owner<\/em> <em>of<\/em> <em>Guiseley,<\/em> <em>called<\/em> <em>William<\/em> <em>Busfield.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_597\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-597\" style=\"width: 293px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lytle.org.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/photo93a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-597\" src=\"https:\/\/lytle.org.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/photo93a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lytle.org.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/photo93a.jpg 293w, https:\/\/lytle.org.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/photo93a-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emma Busfield (nee Sambrooke)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Emma had two sisters and a brother.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary Sambrooke<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>1851-1921)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Mary<\/em> <em>became<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>nurse,<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>was<\/em> <em>Harry<\/em> <em>Cordon\u2019s<\/em> <em>wife.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Georgina<\/strong> <strong>Sambrooke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Georgina,<\/em> <em>was<\/em> <em>also<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>nurse,<\/em> <em>who<\/em> <em>carried<\/em> <em>on<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>tradition<\/em> <em>of<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>Sambrooke\u2019s<\/em> <em>itchy<\/em> <em>feet,<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>who<\/em> <em>emigrated<\/em> <em>to<\/em> <em>Australia<\/em> <em>in<\/em> <em>1890,<\/em> <em>where<\/em> <em>she<\/em> <em>married<\/em> <em>an<\/em> <em>elderly<\/em> <em>sheep<\/em> <em>farmer.<\/em> <em>In<\/em> <em>1910<\/em> <em>she<\/em> <em>returned<\/em> <em>via<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>Continent<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>visited<\/em> <em>her<\/em> <em>sisters<\/em> <em>in<\/em> <em>Liverpool.<\/em> <em>Her<\/em> <em>gifts<\/em> <em>to<\/em> <em>me,<\/em> <em>her<\/em> <em>grandniece,<\/em> <em>were<\/em> <em>French<\/em> <em>dresses<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>hat.<\/em> <em>I<\/em> <em>was<\/em> <em>four<\/em> <em>or<\/em> <em>five<\/em> <em>years<\/em> <em>old<\/em> <em>at<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>time,<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>gift<\/em> <em>obviously<\/em> <em>made<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>deep<\/em> <em>impression<\/em> <em>on<\/em> <em>me.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Samuel<\/strong> <strong>Sambrooke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>The<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>youngest<\/em>\u00a0<em>child,<\/em>\u00a0<em>Samuel<\/em> <em>travelled<\/em> <em>to<\/em> <em>Tibet<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>entered<\/em> <em>Lhasa<\/em> <em>before<\/em> <em>Sir<\/em> <em>T.<\/em> <em>Younghusband.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Emma Sambrooke\u00a0 (1848 &#8211; 1921) Emma became my grandmother.
